Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Machinist Technician at our Northshore Mining Company Mine facility located in Babbitt, MN. The primary duties of this position will be to perform the technical machining needs of the Northshore Mining Railroad Department.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Perform the technical machining needs of the Railroad Department.
  • Turning of ore car and locomotive wheels.
  • Precision measuring as needed.
  • Assist in all areas of Babbitt Railroad Maintenance Shop.
  • Will be required to make repairs to ore, side dump, flat, and tank cars.
  • Will be required to do changing of A&B end yoke couplers, followers, and draft gears.
  • Will be required to do effective on-track car inspections in the railroad yard. 
  • Will be required to learn railroad rules for working safely in railroad yards, on the mainline and hirail operation.
  • Will be required to operate multiple pieces of stationary equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 2-year degree in millwright, industrial maintenance, or welding; or 2-years of applicable work-related experience.
  • Previous Machining experience required. 
  • Capable of performing all position weld repairs.
  • Be an effective communicator and maintain positive work relationships.
  • Self-motivated and an enthusiastic learner with genuine interest for the position.
  • Must be a team player and have demonstrated excellent safety practices.
  • Willing and able to assist others working on railroad equipment, including locomotives.
  • Must meet hearing and vision requirements (specific to determining colors).
  • Excellent safety record.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Must achieve a passing score on the HCC Machinist Assessment Test.

       

The pay range for this role is $30.72/hour to $45.31/hour.
