Job Description
Cleveland-Cilffs Mansfield Works has an immediate opening for a Section Manager Health, Safety, & Security. This leadership role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards, and overseeing plant security operations. The successful candidate will lead initiatives that protect the health and safety of employees and contractors while supporting continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Compliance and Auditing:

Lead and manage the plant’s Safety, Health & Security programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, corporate standards, and other legal regulations.

Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits; implement corrective actions.

Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, fire protection systems, and security risk assessments.

Maintain EHS management systems and track safety performance metrics.

Stay current on evolving safety regulations and industry best practices.
Hazard Mitigation and Incident Investigation:

Drive incident investigations and root cause analysis; develop preventive measures.

Champion injury/fatality prevention (SIF) and hazard assessment efforts and activities.

Manage contractor safety programs and enforce site safety protocols.

Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors.
Collaboration:

Collaborate with leadership and engineering teams to embed safety into operational decisions and projects.

Supervise plant security operations, emergency response planning, and business continuity strategies.

Support management during regulatory agency inspections.
Training and Communication:

Champion safety meetings and training and provide technical assistance to all employees.

Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels.

Lead transparent communication of safety information and performance metrics to engage management and employees in achieving safety goals.

Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, or related field, or 5+ years of safety leadership experience.

Proven experience in manufacturing safety management.

Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, risk management, and safety auditing.

Proficiency in safety management software and MS Office.

Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills.

Willing and able to work nights, weekends and/or holidays when on call or during extended outages.

Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications:

Steel or mining industry experience.

OSHA, CSP, CHST, or similar credentials.

Experience in unionized environments.

Familiarity with behavior-based safety programs, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics.

Knowledge of NFPA standards, fire protection systems, and security risk assessments.
