Quality Technician

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers, and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a Quality Technician at the Shelbyville, TN location. The Quality Technician is part of the Quality team responsible for inspecting, analyzing, and cataloging incoming loads.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• · Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• · Work closely with operations to determine efficient use, storage, processing, and distribution of scrap materials
• · Evaluate incoming Non-Ferrous and Ferrous product to determine utilization for low copper blends
• · Utilize metal analyzer to assess and catalogue loads based on composition
• · Provide guidance or training to yard employees to ensure understanding and successful implementation of any procedural changes
• · Responsible for providing quality data from material suppliers
• · Occasionally utilize scale system
• · Uphold compliance to environmental, safety, state, and local requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age
• · Experience in scrap industry preferred
• · Knowledge of metallurgy preferred
• · Computer experience with Microsoft Office
• · Good communication and interpersonal skills
• · Proficient data entry skills
• · Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks at once
• · Ability to maintain accurate records
• · Ability to follow oral and written communication
• · Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects
• · Work cooperatively with other employees
• · Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather
• · Ability to lift up to 50lbs
