Cleveland-Cliffs Cleveland Works has an immediate opening for a Senior Section Manager Powerhouse in our MEU Steam Utilities Department. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight of all powerhouse operations and maintenance activities within the Cleveland, OH plant. This role will ensure the reliability of critical utilities – including blast furnace wind, steam and electricity – while supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality steel making operations. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge, strong leadership, and relevant experience in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment while maintaining a reliable, cost-effective source of Blast Furnace wind and steam electricity for plant operations.

  • Provide managerial and financial oversight for the Powerhouse and BOF Suppressed Combustion systems operations

  • Oversee power system operations and maintenance of associated electrical and mechanical equipment

  • Provides senior leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, front-line managers, and their crews to ensure effective execution of operations and maintenance plans in a 24/7 operation

  • Lead the development of short- and long-range maintenance and operational plans, budgets, and performance targets

  • Collaborate with other departments to address customer requests and support continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, quality, and cost performance

  • Drive process, equipment, and system improvements through engineering and reliability initiatives

  • Builds a high-performance culture centered on accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement

  • Design and deliver training programs, ensure ongoing workforce development, and provide meaningful performance feedback

  • Promote teamwork, maintain effective employee relations, and oversee disciplinary actions when needed

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, state licensure regulations, and internal standards for energy systems

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and extensive relevant experience

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial operations or the military

  • Deep working knowledge of powerhouse operations and maintenance, including steam generation, high-voltage power distribution, and combustion systems

  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical discipline

  • 10 years of leadership experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial operations or the military

  • 7+ years of engineering experience in steelmaking, heavy manufacturing, or high-energy industrial environment

  • Experience managing high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, compressed air systems or high-voltage distribution

  • Experience in a unionized environment

  • Current State of Ohio Stationary Engineer’s License

Relocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified candidates from outside the local area.

The salary range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000.  An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
