Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Maintenance Planner at our Burns Harbor, Indiana operation.  This role coordinates the ordering of parts and labor, and monitors delivery status and associated expenses. Supports the safe and efficient execution of maintenance work by receiving, planning, estimating, and managing maintenance work orders.

 
Summary of Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with front line foremen to plan and coordinate job execution, including ordering necessary parts, and developing a detailed action plan to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Screens each work order to see that it has been properly filled out, discusses the details with the originating department, ensures the work scope is clearly described and authorized, the priority is defined, and completion date is specified
  • Plans all maintenance work orders; determines the sequence of each job step; defines safety requirements, parts, materials, special tools, skills and labor hours; obtains blueprints, drawings and job procedures as needed
  • Estimates each work order in terms of crafts, direct labor and material required. Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for execution.
  • Develops master plans for regularly recurring repair jobs. Makes recommendations to production concerning long range maintenance needs and prepares weekly forecast of major jobs
  • Consults production supervisors and area maintenance supervisors regards to facilities or equipment to be maintained; makes recommendations for systems improvement
  • Assists maintenance and production management in analyzing costs periodically and where necessary, recommends corrective action needed to reduce maintenance costs
  • Plan and coordinate job execution for mechanical, electrical and operations projects. 
  • Periodic weekend coverage as part of the maintenance on-call rotation throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in heavy industry or the military.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance aptitude, strong leadership/team skills.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and exposure to databases.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn other site-specific computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field from an accredited educational institution. 
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
