The Cliffs Civil-Geotechnical Team works on large earthen embankment dam structures that encompass all facets of geotechnical engineering, instrumentation monitoring, soil mechanics, and field construction. As a Civil Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.
Summary of Responsibilities:

Work with an experienced Civil-Geotechnical team on key project tasks that support strategic business goals and initiatives.

Lead the development of standards, processes, and procedures within the department

Suggest recommendations for improvement and various other duties as needed to support the business.

Assist in developing operations manuals for site operations including but not limited to performing geotechnical field investigations, installing and monitoring instrumentation, civil and geotechnical design and layout, construction management, engineering & design work related to the installation of varied, complex equipment, infrastructure, and facilities.

Ensure that advanced day-to-day equipment troubleshooting support is provided to Maintenance

Manage aspects of large cross-functional projects and be aware of costs, schedule, performance, and deliverables for projects assigned

Lead the development of standards, processes, and procedures within the department

Various other projects as needed to support the business
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other related technical degree

Good written and oral communication skills
-
Adaptability to changing work environments or direction
-
Word processing and spreadsheet skills vital
-
Familiarity with concepts of general Geo-civil analyses and design
-
Strengths in GIS and Civil3D softwares a major plus

Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026
