Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for multiple Shift Managers Operations at our East Chicago, Indiana operation. The Shift Manager Operations is a front-line supervisory role responsible for coordinating safety, quality, and production activities on a designated production line. This position ensures operational excellence through leadership, discipline, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct hourly employees.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

  • Conduct timely safety, quality, and environmental audits.

  • Uphold and enforce job procedures and maintain crew discipline.

  • Monitor operations and take corrective action as needed.

  • Supervise and schedule hourly personnel, both on the shop floor and from the shift manager’s office.

  • Ensure proper training and utilization of direct reports.

  • Collaborate with maintenance, planning, and scheduling teams to develop work lists for repairs and preventive maintenance.

  • Make operational decisions under pressure, following corporate policies.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, quality, and productivity.

  • Communicate effectively with upstream/downstream teams and contractors.

  • Other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school.

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.

  • At least 2 years of heavy industry, manufacturing, or military experience.

  • Analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, technology, or related discipline.

  • Experience in a union environment.

  • Experience in steel manufacturing or a similar industrial setting.
