Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Senior Quality Engineer at our Indiana Harbor facility in East Chicago, IN. As a Senior Quality Engineer at Cleveland-Cliffs, you will be part of a global team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. Ensuring work is performed safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers is a priority.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Support and guide team members to overcome obstacles.
- Participate in quality assurance projects and multidisciplinary teams to drive continuous improvement and waste reduction.
- Provide metallurgical and technical support for product and process improvement through data analysis, problem solving, expertise in an area of responsibility, metallurgical/mechanical concepts, and knowledge of customer operations/markets.
- Monitor product and process variability, focusing on improving practices and product performance.
- Meet with customer representatives to provide innovative and timely solutions to quality and reliability issues.
- Deliver technical solutions to internal and external customers leveraging knowledge of manufacturing processes and product capabilities.
- Collaborate with other operational and technical departments to drive results.
- Communicate with upstream and downstream operations to enhance practices and performance.
- Perform various other duties as needed to support the business.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy or Material Science Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing.
- Strong communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear communication and coaching skills.
- Capability to work in a hot, dusty environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in materials or metals manufacturing.
- Proven success in defining and resolving problems.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic work environment.
