Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer at our Columbus, Ohio, location. The ideal candidate would assist in managing, leading, and directing the electrical and mechanical maintenance workflow in our 24-hour operation. They will coordinate all maintenance activities on assigned shifts or multiple shifts within our Operations and Maintenance Departments. They will be responsible for safety, housekeeping, turn operations, breakdown response, maintenance planning, and downturn work execution. 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Bargaining Unit employees who are responsible for maintaining operating equipment using time-based, conditioned-based, predictive, and emergency actions. 
  • Supervise completion of work assignments and follow established department plans. 
  • Enforce safety regulations, conduct daily safety communications, monitor monthly safety activities, and conduct safety inspections as needed. 
  • Resolve equipment failures during scheduled shutdowns or "breakdown" actions. 
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance activities throughout the location. 
  • Maintain spares inventory. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering/electrical engineering technology or High School diploma/GED and five (5) years experience in front-line maintenance supervision. 
  • Front-line maintenance supervision in a heavy industrial environment. 
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics. 
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical drives, and crane systems. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Three (3) years of experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of industrial power equipment (transformers, switchgear) up to 13.8kv DC & AC drives, including variable speed AC drives and Programmable Logic Controllers. 
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Able to perform failure analysis.
