Cleveland-Cliffs, Butler Works, is looking for a Shift Manager in our Rail Transportation Department.  The Shift Manager will effectively and efficiently manage safety, equipment, and personnel to provide an incident-free, quality rail service for our plant operations.  We stride to create a safe “Rail Operation” at Butler Works, while maintaining the highest standards in quality and service to our facility.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule and provide work directions for hourly union employees and the rail service maintenance group.
  • Assign manpower and equipment as necessary to load, unload, and move various types of railroad cars using cranes and locomotives while utilizing our two-way interplant radio system.
  • Work closely with our foreign railroad partners to ensure on time delivery, and correct set offs and pick-ups.
  • Run interface with contractors and operating departments to efficiently meet the requirements of on-time delivery on a consistent basis.
  • Perform other duties as needed, including incident investigation and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a rail coordination or yardmaster position.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Management, Mechanical Engineering.
  • Union supervisory experience.
